While Mr. Percy' Meek, accompanied, bj a lady and gentlemau friend, was driving from Bekorangi to Wai.kanaa on Saturday, one of-the wheels struct a boulder, causing the horse to back into a gully. The occupants were thrown out, but escaped without injury. Yesterday a new flag; bearing the word "Raukawa" "was unfurled by the' Otaki • Natives, in the presence of a .number . of interested spectators. Other preparations are being made for the forthcomiiiff assemblage of-Natives. Very little interest was displayed in the Hospital Board election. Perhaps the only feature was the running of a special motor-car. ' ' 1, The autumn show in connection with 1 ; the Horticultural and Industrial' Society oponed yesterday in fine but dull weather. The show is a perfect one, and the allround display superb.' In cut blooms, however, 1 many intending exhibits' were cpparfently Spoiled by the weather, but. nevertheless, the .display is a fine-one, ■ cactus dahlias predominating. Fruit, as ■ usual, is well to the 1 fore, and thia line ' of exhibits proves the suitability :of the Otaki soil and climate for such products. The vegetables shown also make an'excellent display, and the same remark applies to the derorative class, : especially the children's sections. The show will be open again to-day. ■ , .
