GAME DAMAGING THE CROPS.
IN THE LOWER WAIKATO. (By Toleeraoh.—Special Oorreacondent.) Auckland, March 15. Throughout the Lower Waikato there appears to be a unanimity of opinion that a mistake has been made in proclaiming the coming season a close one for game. Both ducS and imported game are reported to bo very plentiful, and in faot pheasants are in greater evidence this season than they have teen for several years past, and they are doing considerable damage to crops of maize and turnips, It is hoped that the Minister for Internal Affairs will give cffect to the wishes of the great number who, are desirous of having an open season. In any case, farmers declare that they canno't allow the birds to continue throughout the 'season, causing depredations to the crops.
