AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE. PROTEST AND COUNTER DEMONSTRATION. By Telegraph—PreßS Association— Gonyrleht Sydney, March 15. A meeting in the Broken Hill Town Hall called by a Socialist group to pro-, test against tho fostering of the military spirit led to a strong counter demonstration, ending in a free fight, calling 'for tho interference of the police. ' The voices of the speakers wore drowned by the singing of patriotic songs. The furnituro and fittings of the hall suffered considerably during the rough-and-tumble. When order was restored the counterdemonstrators carried a resolution favouring tho Defence movement for citizen soldiers.
