POHANGINA COUNCIL.
_ T hei ordinary meeting of the Pohangina County Council was held on Saturday. 1 resent: Councillors E. W. (chairman), G. P Smith, C. Bailpoy, H. Burne, D. Howie, B. C.' Eglinton, and G. A. Wagstaff. ■. °
llr. S. A. Caldwell's request for permission to .erect a gate on the side of the road.through the' Forest Eeserve at Te Punga _ was. deferred .pending a report from the engineer. 'The enginee^.was instructed to report at next meeting regarding forming Reid's line to tho .end of the.road; also as to regradingv the creek crossing. , Mr. C. F. Hart was granted permission to erect a fence'on ' the. road opposite Pawsou's, bebveen Horopito Bridge arid Timipo Junction. The engineer was iistructed to have drinking troughs erected, in the Awahau l and Slangaono. ridings at' Church Hill and Horseshoe Bend.
lhe chairman was authorised to ascertain the cost of a r motor trip over the roads of the county (about 350 miles) so tbat cquncillors might ascertain for themselves : the , state,. of the roads, and the needs of settlers. '
Attention was oallcd to of noxious weeds in the county, especially pennyroyal and blackberries, but no action was taken.
An application was received from' the Oroua' County Council applying for a contribution of .£2OO towards the erection ol Menzie's ford bridge, the estimated cost of which- is ,£3160, and is apportioned as follows:—Government subsidy, Feildirig Borough Council, £500; Pohangina County Council, .5200; settlers' voluntary contribution, ,£300; and Oroua County Council, JEIIOO.". It was resolved to reply, that the council could not comply with the request. The engineer's and treasurer's reports were' read and adopted. Accounts amounting to ,£290 Is. fid. wero passed for payment.
