t ; - ~~ ~ ; On Empire Day this year Dr. Charles Harriss will give his annual Empire Concert in London. A special interest attaches to it this time, inasmuch as Dr. Harriss has offered three prizes for competition, viz., ,£SO, '.£25, and ,£ls, for' a cantata to be performed on that occasion, preference being given to works dealing, with the Imperial idea, of which Dr. Harriss is a staunch supporter/ At these Empire Day concerts a chorus of from 3000 to 5000 voices,' an orchestra of 200, and many distinguished soloists'take part, preference being given to artists born in the dominions.' Two New Zealand debutants took part last year, Miss Aulsebrook, of Christchurch, and Hiss Kichardson, of Auckland.
