Hamilton, March 11 A fire at East Hamilton early on Sua* day morning resull-cd in the total destruction of three shops, two N 'of- which' belonged to Mr. W. Dey, and were used as a general store and post office hy their owner, and the other occupied by Mr.-J. White as a general fancy good! store. The fire started in Mr. White'd place at i a.m. : The buildings, being old 'wooden- ones, wore toon consumed.' Tlie firemen were powerless to prevent the spread, of the flames, as there is.no water service on the east side of the river. Mr. Dey's shops were insured in the New Zealand Company' for . £104 the stock for and the stable for '<£50. Mr. White's stock was insured foi •£250 and the shop for £100 in the Guardian office. A curious' coincidence if that Mr. Dey was local agent for thj New Zealand Company, ana Mr. Gar* diner,, the owner of . Mr. White's shopi for the Guardian. . UNLICENSED HOTEL BURNT. • Dunedin, March 14. The SraolifY Hotel, jit Seacliff, which! , is now unlicensed, was burnt down shortly after .midnight, on Saturday.
