The lad was brought to Greytown Hospital, where ; Dr. Bey extracted the pellet. , './■ 1 : FOUND DROWNED. Nelson, March 14. ' John Whitell Claridge, a bootmaker, of Waimea West, was found drowned in the river -near* Appleby on Saturday, evening. He had apparently fallen or been jerked out of a trap. At the inquest a verdict was- returned, that-death was 'due to drowning, but there was no evidence how deceased got into the water. SUICIDE OF A MAORI GIRL. Gisborne, March li. Invercargill,, March 14. 1 -While returning from a concert at Orepuki, Denis Corkery, a well-known farmer, aged sixty, got a leg caught on the step of.a trap. The-horse bolted, and Corkery was dragged round a paddock. When found by his sons Corkery was dead, his neck being broken. He leaves a widow and ■ grown-up. family.
