EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held on Saturday eveuing at Wise's rooms, Eona Bay, when there were present, tho Mayor (Mr. J. Barr), Councillors Foley, Koss, Bussell, Sanson, . Wills, and the town clerk. Among the correspondence read was a letter from the Superintendent of Electric Lines, stating, in reply to an inquiry from the town clerk, that improvements in the telephone communication with Welling, ton were being ont, : and thatra, direct circuit would be available, shortly: Messrs. Bollon and others, owners of the water reserve at Muritai,' intimated their consent to the council taking over the reserve .(a little over ah acre) in return for repayment of rates thereon during the boroughs existence .(.£2 2s. 3d.), and on condition: that the, existing water-rights were preserved. The town clerk was instructed to have the transfer arranged. The Water Supply Committee submitted an interim report, in which, after investigating the possibilities of the Eona Creek, it; recommended that the council should not proceed further at present with boring operations for artesian. water. The 'committee had:had.a preliminary survey of, the creek area taken, particulars: of which were also submitted. Further stopa were being taken to enable a comprehensive report being laid before the council at its , next meeting. The interim report was received. ... An interesting report was received from Mr. Lauchlan upon a suggested/scheme for electric'lighting of the borough. Full consideration of the report was deferred till after the end of the present financial year. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Lauchlan was passed. * . : Tho resolution passed by way of special order on' February 3, declaring Ngaio Street to be a public, street was confirmed. : ' •. Accounts amounting to .£l7 13s. 9d. were passed for payment. of fifteen guineas was voted to the town clerk for the current financial year, and Councillor Wills gave notice of motion for next meeting to increase the town clerk's BalacE*
