The Sayonara was the quickest off the mark, but the Culwalla, lying more tcft windward, forged ahead.' ; After, the race had been a few minutes in progress the wind, which was light at the start, freshened. The Culwalla was beautifully handled and continued to improve her position. She rounded the first buoy i minutes .15 seconds ahead of the Sayonara. The Victorian yacht then went up, but lost ground in the second strotoh, passing the second buoy four minutes behind the Culwalla, On the run home, with the wind behind them, the Sayonara showed to better advantage than earlier in the race, but could not make up the lost ground, Culwalla beating her home by about three minutes. The winner's time was 3 hours 17 minutes. , TIME ALLOWANCE.. , : Melbourne, March 12. The..Sayonara, though only rated. at 11,42 metres, is in the 12 metres class, while the Culwalla 111 is in the 10 metres class.
