THE "DOMINION" PICNIC.
•. The _ general staff; of Thb; DoHnaoS held its ajHinal picnic at Masai's Gapdens on Saturday. ' There was no disguising the character of the occasion from; the outset, the departure of the five dTagloads of happy people being heralded by a particularly energetic, performance on "yo'ancient coach-horn," who blew merry fanfares, at discreet intervals. The dragdrive out- was particularly , enjoyabler thanks to, the great improvement that has! been effected in the Hutt Read. Mason's Gardens are a ; botanical paradise,, and proved a perfect; background: for the 'day's, merrymaking, which, war entered . heartily by. all present. Among the visitors during tie afternoon were Messrs. Jno. Duthie and A. L. Herdman, M.P.,.wno toot a lively.interest in the proceedings. A programme of sports tested.' the athletic capabilities. of ' the6taff. The results were as follow:—.' Literary and Commercial Handicap (120 yards).—V. Chapman, 1; H. Plimmer, 2f A. There were numerous races for the children, and no matter ■ how fast or how': slow any of them ran they all received prizes, and ' happiness- was __theirs. Luncheon and tea were served in the sylvan shade of a clump: of magnificent.; giante of the toTcst, ■ the catering being attended to by the'gardens staff. Praise is due to the committee, and in. particnlar to the chairman (Mr. Julian) and tie secretary (Mr. J. Bajry) for arranging..• such a thwoughly enjoyailo outing.
