CAPTAIN W. S. KffiG. Captain W. S. King, who was beaten by a point for the championship, may| be justly described as one of. the most notable rifle shots ever produced in Now Zealand. As Bandmaster King, ho won the Champion Belt in 1899 by 32 points. In 1901 he tied with W. Loveday for fourth
place in the championship, and in 1902 he was again fourth in the series to Rifleman G. Hyde, the winner. He has been a member of two Bislej teams, and he has also represented New Zealand in Australia. At the Trenthaiu meetings in 1892 and 1895 he won the Rifle Cups presented by the association. He won the Union Company's Cup at Wanganui in 1899, and af Trentham in 1908, and now by winning it again this year it becomes his entire properly. He won the Carbine Cup in 1908. In 1905 he was champion of the South Island.
