A NEW VICIOUS MICROBE.

The cause of infantile paralysis, which has lately been epidemic in New York city, ana was last year responsible for 237 deaths, has been discovered. Experiments on monkeys in ,the Rockemler Institute showed, it is reported, that infantile paralysis was an infections disease of the spinal cord, and physicians now predict confidently the discovery of a vaccine which will effect a cure. Infantile paralysis affects children almost always in. the first two. years of life, and transforms a'child which formerly , appeared to' be in perfect health' into a , shrunkon-limbed' cripple. Five years ago only forty 'deaths were reported in . New York city,, but the disease . advanced by leaps and bounds, so that last year' there were, 2023 cases, of which 237 ended fatally. '

The lady woild not pay her dressmaker's- bill because she said the dress did not tit her. At the second hearing of the case .the judge, in despair, ordered one of the court officers to measure the waist of the dress. It was found to be the' some as the actual waist measurement unsuspectingly furnished by the customer herself at the..f\rst hearing. "How is this?"-asked the- judge.
