OPEN GAME SEASON ASKED.

MINISTER'S REPLY. IBy TelegriDli.-Press Association.! • Auckland,-March 10. - A large deputation waited on the Hon. D. Buduo this jaf ternoou to. endeavour to get him to reconsider his decision 'to make the coming season a close season for all game.. » Jl !\ E ; Wl Pa J' ton > president of. the Auckland Acclimatisation Association, said that it was • the desire of the last conference of societies that each district should hare the right to say. whether the season should be close or open, as conditions varied so much. At the present time game was more' abundant in .Auckland than it had ever been. The fact that last year, over .£SOO worth of game licenses were sold showed, that: there . was plenty of game, and farmers were, protesting •against the quantity of game, especially of quail, which were doing ' a tremendous amount of damage.' If. the season were made a close one they would have to resort to poison. Another point was, that the closing of the season would not result in any diminution in the quantity of game shot, and the only ones who would suffer would bo the legitimate sportsmen. The Minister, in his reply, said that he personally was not responsible for. the season being closed. His information was that game around about ..Auckland was not plentiful. However, the matter was not closed, and if he had evidence that there was a plentiful supply of gamo it could be reopened, and . the Governor could be recommended to grant an exemption. At present thd i evidence was conflicting.
