WEATHER PROPHECIES.
Sir,—Can't something, be done, to restrain such persons-as the Reverend, (personally I have cause not to revere .him) Bates, meteorologist and weather prophet, from continuing their obnoxious prophecies ? ' I had ■an invitation vesterday (Tuesday) to .go out in' a launch, fishing over 'the Wanganui bar. ' In Monday's "Herald," Mr. Bates said, or at. least they said he said, that within 20 hours all sorts of dreadful weather things were going to happen to Wanganui. Visions arose of the Wanganui bar in a squall, tide rushing out to sea, a stoppage of the engine, the broaching •to of. the launch, otc., etc., and X didn't go. Auckland was apparently in the throes of a cyclone, . and 1 waited in apprehension for it to strike here, meanwhile seeing that my garden flowers were properly tied to stakes and my sun screens rolled up and lashed. No two more perfect days than Tuesday, and Wednesday have I ever experienced: They absolutely loaded the launch with fish. For. heaven's sake stop these prophecies.—l am, etc., . ■ PISCATOR DEJECTUS. ' Wanganui, March 9.
