Stevenson, of Barnego, Balclutha, handed the clerk of the council a nomination paper and covering fee of £3 as a candidate for the office of representative 'of the combined district of Bruce County, 'Kaitangata Borough, and Milton Borough. Mr. Stevenson, armed with legal advice,.took the step of being duly nominated, and ho is the only candidate so nominated, and intends, if he is not accepted as a representative of the district, to issue a writ of mandamus in the Supreme Court to compel the council toacknowledge his election. The clerk of the council, in the face of the resolution passedi meeting, refused to accept the nomination and accompanying fee. out,, acting on the county solicitor's advice, gave Mr.' Stevenson an acknowledgment.'. that. a 1 nomination paper and fee had been tendered. ... ■
