Mr. C.'\Wliyte, one of the. CartertoSi letter-carriers, who has been, away on annual, leave,, returned home on Friday, and resumed duty on Saturday morning., , On Friday evening, at Ifasterton, a ' well-attended meeting of poultry-farmers interested.in the promotion of a Wairarapa Egg. Circle was held, and Mr. T« H.'Rutherford presided, and Mr. W..K Chamberlain, of Messrs. Chamberlain aid Son, was present, and gave prices at which his firm were prepared to supplj members of the circle with various pout .. try-foods. He was accorded a vote of thanks. .Messrs. T. H. Rutherford (chairman), J. M'Causland,' W.. P. Simpson, T. Edge, C. A. Hanberg, and H. M. iioddinga ton (hon. secretary), were constituted, si committee. At'a meeting.'held later it was decided to write to several Wellington firms on' the matter of taking up tha agency for So circle A young lady, evidently not acquainted with the_ surroundings of the local railway station, had a fortunate escape on Friday evening She had just arrived by the evening train, and, to gain access to Broadway, went to the left-hand side o/ the etation building, and, in the darb ness, did not notice that the platform , was about four feet high,. until sh<i stepped , over The unexpected fall gave her a severe shaking, and, it was indeed fortunate that the results were not morq serious. : ... .
