A letter of thanks has been received from the Defence Department by Mr. G. Allport, Secretary of the.Marine Department, for the- services rendered by. the Government steamer Tutanekai in connection with the Kitchener encampment. The Tutonekai brought volunteers to Wellington from Greymouth, Westport, and NcUon, and when the manoeuvres at AVollington were at an end the troops returned to their homes by the steamer.
