POSTING OF WEDDING CAKE.

TJNTOBESEEN EFFECTS. - i The good old custom of sending slices of iwedding cako to friends' has received a Wow at the. 'hands of thoVictorian Posl;-mastor-Genoral. Tho postal officials ob-, iject to wedding cako because it attracts mice and rats, exudes grease, casts off crumbs, and' is unpleasant to handle. A "regulation was therefore gazetted about, a - fortnight ago. stating ' that "packets' containing wedding cako shall not be posted unless the wedding cako is securely packed in tin boxes, and if any packet containing.. wedding cake _ not securely packed in a tin box is posted the package shall be deemed to ..bo posted in contravention'of the Act, and dealt with accordingly." This regulation was brought into, operation without sufficient notice, and in consequenco largo i numbers of packages of wedding cake posted by happy brides to; their' friends have failed, to reach their, destination. In some of the States tho dead lettor rooms of the general post, offices were glutted\with dainty packagos of wedding cake which could not bo delivered, as, according to the regulation they , had been illegally posted. ~ Consequently instead of finding a resting place beneath the pillows of young ladies, .the rich slices have met the mysterious iate of. packages that are posted "in contravention of the Act." Had sufficient notico been givon much annoyance would have been 1 saved. . Thoso concerned with wedding furnishings will no doubt speedily meet the requirements by the production of the proper sort of receptacle in which to send a slice of cake through tho post.
