NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
There aro to bo quite a "number of new features at this year's National 'Dairy Show. In tho dairy factory scction.'.as already stated" in' Tub Dominion, there are two special classes, one for the beat box. of butter, and the other for the bestcase..of cheese,' in which - competitors be-restricted to- bona 'fide members pf.'.the New 1 Dairy. Factory Managers"Association. Then again, there trill also be a judging competition, in which only members of • the 1 association will bo allowed to compete. Three different qualities-of butter aiid three different qualities of chefcse wjll have to be judged.' These will have first been scored by ; three Government : experts, cach : independently of the other, and the competitor who conies nearest the average of the Government experts will ■be awarded the prise. In the fruit section, tho classes for apples .havo been greatly extended,' and the prize-money offered for apples alone reaches .the: respectablo total of .£40, : aa against .£25 last year. This is probably a record." for'the Dominion, and it does hot require to be said that the association is making every effort to bring forward _ a big display of fruit. Points trophies • of. two and three guineas are being offered in all the horticultural and agricultural sections.
In tho'public school garden competitions the conditions have been altered, and the ■prize-money increased. For the benefit of ■schools which have not yet received a copy of the schedule, we reprint the new conditions:— "Class 157.—Division for display, of the results of garden experiments and nature study collections undertaken during the current year, embracing products of. the soil', observation charts, and other details carried;out by the school illustrating' tho 'syllabus prescribed by tho Board of, Education for the . district in' which the school is'situated.: "Spate—Exhibit to fill Bft. frontage by 4ft.: deep with Wall: backing aiid the benching'about 2ft from floor. All the space will be prepared by the'association ready, for exhibits, wall draped to . sft. above the benching with coloured material, and, 2 inch by .".1 '.inch V.wood battens-ift. 6in. apart,; parallel for -hanging exhibits. A. subsidy, • of."i!2'''will 7,be
