MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
The Missions- to' Seamen Institute was crowded,on- Wednesday.evening, when Mr. and .Mrs. Jones provided a delightful concert.- Mr. James Moore, the Missioner, occupied the chair.; ; The following "contributed items to the. programme—Piano--forte solo, Mr. Sawyer; song, Miss M. Jones;" song, Miss ;Mucller; "duet," "Messrs. i'letchor. and Barnes; song, Mr. Barnes; song,, Mv. Jones; song,;- Miss' I. Jones; song, Miss D. Jones; song, Mr. Fletcher. Miss Tomiinson and Mr. Sawyer played the accompaniments. / Several popular choruses, were sung- in . fine-style by the audience, and an amusing. conundrum competition was won by sailors from, ships in! port. Dnring ,an interval- the Missioner delivered- an address on the temperance question, taking the words, "Desperate Kemedies" for a subject.' Sis men subsequently took the/ pledge. : A hearty. vote of thanks was accorded- the performers at the conclusion, and light refreshments were dispensed.'., , - "An instructive lecture' on how ;to . act in a.'.sadden emergency calling for medical assistance was given by Mr. James Moore at the institute last evening. The lecturer dealt chic6y with the commoner accidents, {iiid gave demonstrations showing .how to rescue a drowning person, and how to carrv 'an injured "man. 1 He also gave, several useful hints relating to health matters., A competition in connection with ambulance work was won by sailors, from ships in port.
