Mr. L.. Mi Earle, who .has "been touring . New Zealand for 'several months, and who . recently made an ascent of .Mount Cook, will return to England by the lonic nest mouth. Mr. Ernest Short, the well-known pastoralist, of I'eilding, is leaving for Monte yideo by . the ionic next month, rin company with Mr. J. M'Menamin and Mr. Spain, to attend the Argentine Exhibition:- It is understood that My. Short •will take some prize'rams for show at itlie exhibition.
Mr. G. S. Sharp, who is well-known in local amateur athletic circles, left Wellington last ovening for Hobart, where jhe intends to reside, and begin the study jpf medicine. Mr. Sharp won the Auslialaaian three-mile championship at Hopart in 1908,. having been included in the tievr _ Zealand representative team because of his meritorious win in the New Zealand championship for that distance a jnonth previously.' During the past tiro Seasons, ilr. Sharp has not competed Dn the track, owing to ill-health, but he may be relied- upon to , represent his imiyersity creditably. Prior to resigning ihis position as teachor at Stokes Valley 'iSchool, Air. Sharp .was farewclled by residents. of the district, > who wished him Buccess in his new career. -
Colonel S. L. Brengle, from-the international headquarters of : the .'Salvation iAray, London, who arrived in Wellington from America last Tuesday, and [went south, • is expected, to return to jVvellington on' March 30. Ho will conduct several meetings in this city; and ■also at Elthani, Palmerston iVortn, Dannevirke, Gisborne, and Auclc1 Colonel Brengle' was born in Jndiana in ISGO, and graduated from De iPauw University, Greencastlc, Indiana. Ho was 'active in college il-M.UA. work, and represented his university in the, international Convention in Milwaukee, in 1883. He was particularly interested m the study of! oratory, gaining all the prizes given by the 'university, and was its representative in the State Oratorical Contest in 1883.
