Sir,—lf. the foregoing is more than a "hint," I believe that Lord Kitchener entirely misunderstands the position. If I understand my fellow countrymen I understand that they are not prepared to play second fiddle to Australia. New Zealand, as I know it, has for tho past few thousand years got on very well without Australia. . One admits that a change has come about, , but that change is merely comparative. Thoro is no vitnl change that I know of; and, until a vital change can be shown, I feel quite sure that New Zealand' will not submit submit is the!.word—to be dragged at the* oliariot wheels of misgoverned Australia. The question of expense may be urged, but, as far as I can see, expense is by no means an important factor. —I am, etc., NEW ZEALAND.
