AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
SATURDAY'S MEETING. Another development of tho Wilson-' Kerr walking controversy was reached yesterday, when Mr. J. Jl. Pollock, the president of tho Wellington Amateur Athletic Council, recoived a telegram from tho Aucklander, declining the invitation of tho Wellington Club to come down and race Kerr at the Basin Reservo on Saturday. Kerr arrived in town yesterday, and is very disappointed, at Wilson's.. refusal, and intends to en-, deavour to better his rival's recent championship tinio over the three miles. All arrangements for the meeting aro well forward, and the visiting athletes were busy yesterday putting the finishing touches on their training after their trip down. St. Aubyn Murray, of Canterbury, the champion hurdler, and Opie, the sprinter, his club mate, were out on the KelbUrne Park, and Kerr and Guy Harding, the half and quarter-mile champion, did easy work on tho Basin Reserve. W. A. Woodgor, the champion; sprinter, is confined to his home with a ohill, contracted from his performance in the wet in Auckland, but it is hoped that he will be sufficiently recovered to compete on Saturday. Tho Petono Band has been engaged for tho day, and afternoon tea will be available.on the ground. ; -
