Trentham, March 3. .*_ So far as entries and general preparations for the owning of the Dominion Championship Itiflo Meeting to-day are concerned, the outlook has never been brighter. The entry list has steadily soared upwards like the proverbial here, shinning up the persimmon tree, till at the time of telegraphing, the number of competitors stands at 578, and they are still .coming in in twos and threes. Tho only unsatisfactory circumstance is the change in the weather. The heavy, clammy heat of the day has given place to a cool, fresh breeze from the southvery welcome in many respects, but breathing a promise of nglv weather. However, the luck of the shooting men

J. Collins, Chief Executive Officer of the association. The first events to bo taken will : be matches. 19 and 20, for. volunteers and rifle, clubs respectively; These . are' service, matches.' After lunch the first stage of. the Auckland Match—one of tho championship matches—will be taken. The time-table for the remainder ' of ' the events will. be, mapped oat from day to day. ■.*■■. Arrangements have, been made with the Railway Department for' a* special train .to run from Upper Hutt to Wellington, stopping at the Defence siding.on Saturday for the, convenience of competitors who may desire to visit the city: On Sunday the' 5.34 p.m. train from Te Aro to Lower Hutt will run through to Upper Hutt, stopping at the siding. As evidence of the completeness of the' arrangements, for tho conduct of the meeting, it may be.mentioned that a central, telephone .system has been installed.' The; exchange, is -located 'in. the executive' office, and from there the range officers on duty at the "running man," the Seddon> Collins, -or Sommerville ranges may call up. headquarters,.or may be placed in 'telephonic communication .with : each other. -...•■
The Australians, under Lieut. Dakin; commandant of the Hew South Wales team,'have had a. very good week in camp. They have fired over every range on the ground,, and carefully rehearsed the-various stages of the-big Empire .match over fourteen ranges, seven shots at each. The scores given by Lieut. Dakin were 'as follow:—Armourer-Ser-geant W. H. Cutler, 434; Rifleman W. J. Pigott, .422; Rifleman ~G. Fisher, 421; Eifleman F. J. Harrison, 419; Rifleman S. A. Kefford, 416; Rifleman A. Cutler, lib; Eifleman 0. E. Boyd, 410; Bißemari W. Porritt, 409; Eifleman W. A. Jacobs, 404; Bifleman J. J. Matbeson, S9B; Eifleman E. Ettinghausen, 895; Eifleman M. H.
