Baldwin, senr., member of the Lower.Hutt Borough Council, has notified ins intention to stand as (he HuttEastbourne candidate for the Wellington District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. \Mr. H. C. Vo'gel, of Petone, who, for the past 21 years, has been associated with the "Wellington Jleat Export Company' at Ngahaurauga, is retiring from duty on account of ill-health. This week the staff presented Mr. Vogel with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by them. Mr. Neely made the presentation. ~ ..OPEN-AIR CONCERT. ■ '.'. A'very successful concert was given by the. Hutt and Petone Citizens' Band on' the; Petone Recreation Ground this week. There was a splendid attendance, '. and the band, assisted by the Wellington Pipe Band, and Mr.. Nicholson's "niagnaphone," gave a delightful programme. The Mayor (Mr. J. IV. M'Ewan), in the course of a few remarks, thanked the Pipe Band, Mr. Nicholson, and the public for their assistance. The proceeds are in aid' of the "Contest Fund." , BUTT FIRE BRIGADE. '. The ordinary meeting of tho Hutt Fire Brigade' was. hel<l ou ■ Wednesday evening, Captain Slinn presiding over a good attendance of members. The Petone Brigade.wrote stating that they did not intend to enter a team for the challenge cup which is to be competed for on March 12 at the Hutt Brigade's sports. The! Gear Company and Petone Workshops Brigades have.. however, intimated their, desire to enter teams. Mr. F. S. Hall, of Petone, has offered a gold medal for.'&'• one-ma.n wet competition. A further letter' was received from the Petone Brigade to the effect that they were not in favour of the United Fire Brigade's Conference being held at Lower Hutt next year.
