Regarding the new Canadian and Australasian steamship service, the general manager o£ the Now Zealand Shipping Company states that the service starts . ill May, and will lie a monthly service. The subsidy is <£24,U0Q per annum, and the contract is for three years. Tho Canadian port of departure in the , summer months will bo Montreal, and in the winter St. John, Tho ports of call are Melbourne, Sydney, and the four principal New Zealand ports. Tho Serrico will be carried ou by the com- " pany's steamers, and. if necessary and if suitable vessels bo chartered, the New ■ Zealand Shipping Cnmpanv will be tie"' / sole contractors. '
