BOOKMAKERS AND PUBLIC.
■ ■•' "' [To the Editor.]' . Sir, —By an : advertisement in your paper bookmakers are informed that no boards will be allowed by the Wanßanui Jockey Club at their Cup meeting next week. I , trust, sir, that the club will recon.sider this, as if they do not they will only be playing into the hands of the unscrupulous, who will not have to show their prices, and consequently will defraud takers of the proper odds. Surely, when it is the desire of 99 percent., of racecourse patrons to have this system in use, the Wanganui JockoyClub might fall in with their wishes. In the past several clubs, notably Christchurch and Wellington, have endeavoured to do without boards, but nowadays they are in general use. The. boards show backers where the best market is, and for this reason alone they-should be allowed. ' Trusting the Wanganui authorities will think over the matter.—l am, etc., PUNTER.
