TRAINED NURSES IN TIME OF WAR.

Sir,—A paragraph in this 'morning's' issuo of The-Dominion to the.effect that at present New' Zealand' has made; no practical arrangements whatever for viding trained nurse's in" time of. war s calls for some explanation oh the grounds that the statement is absolutely incorrect. Instead of tho non-existence of nursing corps which "Dominica's" informant desires to convey to your readers, there nre at present 23 nursing divisions in New Zealand representing 1 576 women who have passed medical examinations in homo nursing, etc. Provision is made for these nurses to meet for instruction in such subjects as elementary human physiology, physics, chemistry, general principles of hygieno, • sick-room cookery, military sanitation; etc., in addition to the practical treatment of, the sick and .injured. The nursing divisions are organised in a corporate body under a commissioner appointed by H.P...H; the Prince.of Wules, and'professional nurses are admitted to membership as well as non-professional, provided the regulations authorised by the authorities in London are complied with. Those women are willing'to placo their sei vices at disposal of the military authorities in time of war.—l am, etc.,'" ■■ S. S. HSHEB, Hon.. secretary District Nursing Guild of St. John. Georgo Street, February 25, 1910.
