Championship.—Bam-. ford and Hill, of Auckland, immediately went to the front, followed'-.by Heffer. : Then : Heffer took, second place;: to Hill, -and(allowed, the Aucklander'to take him a10ng.... The position' was- maintained for the".whole. distance, these, two runners gradually leaving a gap between.' them and the rest of the field. ' Heffer was running /with a free stride, and.. seemed to be-holding his own with the. Aucklander iwhen the bell; went for the first lap.. Heffer at once closed, and tried to make the-running, but Hill was equal to the occasion, and a grand race resulted at the turn of/the straight: .Hill, sprinted and Heffer cameagain, but- the going was too' heavy for the Welliug- ■ tonian, and, after a mighty finish, the Auckland boy won by five ; yards, ,in imin; 35 2-ssec. .This race caused great excite, ment among the spectators,-as it was generally understood that these two would fight out the race between them.

Three-Mile Flat Championship.—Eoid, of Auckland, set a pace and endeavoured to'draw out. The other runners following him were:—Hill, of Auckland; Beatson, of Otngo, and H. T. Thompson and F. Wiltou, of Wellington. Kcid soon came back to his field, and Beatson went

to the. front With Hill and Thompson close up. At tho two-mile mark Thompson's ankle gavo in, and he stopped. Wilton was then some yards away, and moved up to third position. In the last lap Beatsonset a great pace, drew,'away from Hill, and won amid cheering.

Three-mile . Walk Championship.—This event- took place prior to' the one-mile event, and at the outset proved, a.battle , between-Kerr (Wellington) and D.. Wilson (Auckland), though' Cashman stuck -to :thom ( for a time. Kerr walked in fine style, and no oiio could cavil at the exhibition ,which he gave. He led. all' thp way till' the' last lap.-when Wilson took the: lead, and, going at a great, bat, drew clean away from' his' opponent. : His style was quite the reverse of correct; and in no part of the race did ho lock his knees' .or keep 'his body, erect, -rules' re-, quire. There was a big demonstration at' tho finish, .the- Aucklandcr receiving ■ great' cheers from - the spectators. -.Cashman retired at two miles, as the pace was too great.. . .'-: '';•■.. " : One-mile, Walk' Championship.—After the three-mile event: this caused intense excitement. Cashman took the lead from the start, iaul went as if . his . lifoponded on .the issue. He was followed ■ by" Wilson-' and -Bennett (ofi v England), Kerr bringing up the rear. At the halfmilo Wilson, was leading, and Kerr had moved up to third; place.• In the last. lap Kerr.took.second position, and looked like overhauling, the Auckland' man, but ;th'o latter only went' faster,: and a great finish saw Wilson breast tho tape- fiveyards ahead of Kerr, with Bennett third.
