Ilespite heavy rain r .-there was, a long cortege at tlio funeral procession of the late Bishop Lenikan this afternoon. The Mayor and city councillors, and ' representatives of almost every public body, as well as of leading business institutions, woro present, in addition'to many visiting priests and-prominent citizens. The. cortege was''over a mile long, and included the- Garrison Band. On arrivalat the cathedral the coffin-was placed in front of the sanctuary, and a short ser-

vice held, the cathedral being packed to its utmost capacity. 7 v The body will lie in state at the cathedral until midnight to'-night,.and the coffin will then be closed down, and. will be guarded during the night l by- members' ofthe Roman Catholic societies.. The burial will take place in the cathedral -'to-morrow-morning after tlio Kequiein Mass, which commences at 10 o'clock.. A crypt has been excavated immediately in front .of the high altar at the sanctuary rails, and here the-body, will be ■ interred; - ■

Masses will commence at six o'clock tomorrow . morning, and will,, be celebrated from then till: 7.30. Before the 10 o'clock Mass the priests of the diocese, together with .-visiting priests, of whom there are a great, number, will chant one nocturne of the Sacred Office with, lauds. The Solemn Requiem Mass 'will follow, - the celebrant being .Bishop Grimes, ■ with Father Brodie as deacon, and., Father Darby as eub'-deacon. Both Fathers Brodie and Darby were or-;, daihed by the late: Bishop Lenihan. Archbishop Redwood, of Wellhwiisn, will preside. The assistant priest w^!'be the Kev. Father Mahoney, who. was the first' New Zealander to enter the ranks of.the priesthood. ,i Tfce assistants at the throne will be llonsignor Gillan, Dean Haekett, Dean Lightlieart, and the .Rev. Father Hdlbrook will be mr-ster of, ceremonies. Archbishop.Redwood will speak briefly, and the body, of the late-Bishop will then be interred, . • . ~
