SHANNON.
The last trump of the local brass band was sounded in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday night, lyhen the:instruments were«returned to the guarantors. There was only a miagre attendance at the public meeting, when the'secretary (Mr. J. M.-Mur-ray) stated that there was 'still a debt of about <£39 on. the instruments. ,Tlie cost, of these .instruments was- originally about <£139,. in to which ■ further siiius; had" boon e-tpeiided, bringing' the total, outlay up to about. .£167. Canvassers , were called for to raise money locally'to pay off the.existing debt, but no support was accorded tho proposal. It was, on the'whole, found impossible to ; keep the band together, as. bandsmen were continually, leaving Hio district, and, under the existing liability, it was not considered .'advisable to' incur ' further debt by paying-for an instructor for tho youth of the town. ■ ■
