ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
TKAMWAY : EMPLOYEE'S SUICIDE/ The Newtown police reported' the' suicide of a tramway employee last even-ing.-Percy. Parish, 28 years of age, a single labourer, shot himself at the house of Mr, Arthur Comrio, of ■%■ Balmoral Torraco, off Owen Street, Mr. Comrie-is foreman at the Newtown car-shed. Doceased bad' been in ill-health, and had had leave of. absence since November 6, spending his holiday with his parents at Oxford, North Canterbury. Ho returned to Wellington on Sunday last, intending to resume, work; and" stayed with Mr. Comrio.' During- the past few days he behaved in-a peculiar- manner and, on Wednesday, Mr.\ Comrie called in. Dr. Kemp. The doctor said that Parish- was, suffering ■ from melancholia, and prescribed for him. He had no reason to suspect that: deceased would commit suicide,; however.. Yesterday deceased; was nioro cheorful, and sat down to tea with family, :\.He- left the table before Mr. Comrie and his wife, and.paced up and down the front passage. \Then. he wont into a back room, used as a workroom, and, in a couple of minutes the household was. startled by the report of a gun. On entering tho roomi Comrio found that his .303 Enfield rifle had been used by Parish to shoot himself, - : - "."■' , . ■'.'•.-■>
. Sergeant Mathioson was communicated with at Wellington South police station, and had tho body removed to the morgue. An inquest will be hold to-day.
