;■< TRAMWAY ..MATTERS.' . '. _ Tho fortnightly, meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last evening, there being, present:-The, Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford) and Councillors Mtiir, Bowie, M'Leod, and M'Clolland. •■'■ . The .treasurer's statement '. of . finances disclosed a bank balance,': to credit, of £601 10s. Gd.:; Accounts totalling £2576 9s. 2d. were, passed.for .payment,; .'' It was reported ; that legal proceedings had been-instituted to call in outstanding rates—about £800 in all;,'; On the subject of'an : hourly car ser-. vice on theMiraihar and Seatoun .tramway lines, the "City-Electrical Engineer,' in reply to an inquiry from'the'Borough. Council, stated that to suit snch an arrangement it. would bo necessary to maintain a service between the borough terminus' and liambton Station, : independent, of tho Kilbirnie services. The!:increase of expenditure involved in the introduction of' the' hourly service would bo £32 per week. With the reduction of £17 17s. 6d. per .week in the mileage receipts, the loss to the city would approximate £50 per week as compared with the present, service.' ■'' Under ■ these circumstances, considered the engineer, • the City Council could not entertain the proposal unless the Borough Counoil were prepared to pay a charge of 2s. per car mile. Tho present 40-minute service was the most economical from all points of view. The letter was received.
