Hall; yesterday afternoon, when there-was a good attendance of buyers, whoibid spiritedly for almost every lot submitted./ It.' was regrettable that it was necessary to begin the sale at : 2/plm., for the heavy catalogue was not put. through until about midnight. Tho brokers' reports appended'give nil the details of tho movements of tho market :— . DalgetK. and Co. Messrs. Dalgety and .Company,. Limited, report as follows :-We held our. fourth sale of 'the season' yesterday, when we 'offered a catalogue of 6654 bales, out of a total of 16,358 bales; and sold 6397 bales at;auction. Ab 'usual, there was: a large attendance of buyers,,and competition was keen throughout the sale. -On, the whole., the-ouality of-most, of the offerings.; was not? up to :the standard of previous logues, as there was a.large number of dingy, heavy; and seedy parcels, hut, notwithstanding this, prices were vers firm, especially for all-coarse- -and inferior classes", which showed an advance on previous rates." -As is usually .the . case at this time of' the year, there was a large quantity- of lambs' wool offered, which also met with keen competition for, any lines • free of ' seed. We also offered a number of merino, clips . from the Marlborough province, aggregating about 1000 bales; .'most.-of /-which" was -disposed. ,of at priceß satisfactory to vendors, and wo look forward to increased offerings from this district next season, The highest price for this class of wool was Hid. for a line of the well-known "Benopai" clip. We, had,very tew lines of bright, attractive : wools to offer buyers, but anything of good quality was eagerly competed'for. We have to'report a good .sale,,;with- prices quite equal:,to those .ruling: at the January sale, and; for some lots,'prices showed an advance. Competition*was keen:for all lots, especially, for, bright • free", lambs' • wool, and some high prices were paid. We topped.the market' for lambs' woolwifh a splendid line, which realised 13} d;, this being a substantial rise -on- last sale. . The fourth sale of the season was held yesterday, afternoon, when a' total offering'of 16,500 - bales was brought forward, our catalogue comprising 2700 bales. The attendance of;buyers was good, and com-, petition was : animated: The offerings consisted very largely of fairly heavy conditioned crossbreds, few of the lighter wools being Bhown. . For these wools prices must be : reckoned quite a farthing to a halfpenny -better than ,at. last, month's sale. The better /class wools, however, halfbreds and fine,'crossbreds, .were not on such a high level as the preceding saICF, and these comprised the balk of the with'drkwals., A feature of the sale was the large, .quantity :of bright, l clean , lambß" wool offered, and for which competition was most keen,- some of the best - lots fetching from 12d. to, 123 d.
