BRAWL AT THE FOXTON RACES.
Sir,—ln a recent issue of-The'Domin-ion I notice, a, correspondent", signing, himself' "Justice," commenting on the. result of an-inquiry held by. the committee of'.the, Poxton. Racing Club' into a brawl that; took place ori 'the'Ppxton : Racecourse. : 'Iri' ! the first place; he ac- ■ cuses the' club, of /giving/an unjust'.decisipn> and "later on states '■ that' some, ofthose connected with'the affair, have been' done a..gross injustice. Now, ; sir, I think 1 "Justice" must have :other reasons for writing- such a letter than'"in "'the; causo of justice;.and I.can say here that his idea, of justice does' not at> all coin-, cide- with that.' of, the" committee' who' held the inquiry. : ' It is not' a ;difficiilt matter, forany ones to'pass' ah "opinion, but that opinion cau'-.be taken , for ; 'what, it, is worth, "• seeing that; "Justice" Svas ignorant of tho.evidence taken; : and had 1 he,;been familiar with;the: facts I feel certain such statements would not:have been made. By tho tone; of • his letter i I, can only, arrive at.the conclusion, that his real.motive in writing was-to shield those with whom-he.is associated.'; Had ho , signed-himself as.."lrish Justice" it would haye-,)>een more consistent with tho . statements', made.' No. doubt "Jus-, tico" ;will be.pleased to learn' that.air exhaustive inquiry, is .beiug held,"by the Jfetropolitan Cl.ubV the evidence: -taken at the. inquiry,.by>the !Club has been, sent on, and.further,evi-dene-e will be. tendered-when ..the time arrives. Hero is.an opportunity .for "Justice" to. give, his evidence, and I feel :sure'the»Wanganui Jockey ; . Club will bo only too pleased if r he can assist >them in arriving at a' just decision; Apologising for trespassing 'on. your space, and thanking you in anticipation,—l am,, etc., ~,. ;;' ;,. ■■; SUBURBAN TRAIN SERVICES.;.;:' Sir,I—Referring.to1—Referring.to the:proposcd new,rail-: way-time-table, cannot something bo done to shorten the time taken by.- tho early morning train along the Manawatu lino? This train leaves Porirua at 7.30. a.m.; and reaches Wellington, at 8.45, and it.hasbe-. corae almost a daily occurrence now. for it to have,to.wait half an hour at Johnsonville, and despite ,-this'. long wait : it. still reaches Wellington at 8.45. Some of the young..men travelliug .'by., this train this morning left it at Johnsonvillc; hiked to Wellington, and were comfortably seated at jtheir office• desks in 'the ■ city, at 8.30 i.a.m.,. just, about ;the time that the-train Iwas ..crawling! along, r-in ■ the , , vicinity ,of Khandallah. ,' Another, alteratiou that, 1 I should .Hie to sukKest^jJi'Dvuliid. that' It
was workable, is that the train leaving for ■• Palmerstod North every afternoon at «5 p.m. be delayed till 5.20. This. would give-the Palnierstoh people another' hour in>the city, and would also allow.tho dwellers in, tho -suburbs beyond Johnsonville.to reach :their,-homes-at a;respectable, hour. '. The■ qnly. service- out to.the outlying districts boyond Johnsoriville now after, the 4.15 train is a-, service leaving here/sit G. 20 p.m. ..This train as often lato ■in -starting, generally has .a long wait.at Johnsonville, and'.-it is; quite μ-lcqmmbri, thing -for.it".notitp'Teach Poriruatill-8 p.m. My.advice to city dwellers.who. may be anticipating taking,,up:homes-along: the ilanawattuline.is to stay .where they are" till-a reasonable, service, is provided, by: those, who are responsible for the: present -unsatisfactory, state- of .this suburban lino. —lam, etc., <■■■< -"•■. >. i ■' •■- ■ . :V: ; , .:,-.:.,:.•■ ;•-■•;;; ':-, :." c SUBUKBS.; , -..February 7.. .■./.■',; v ■'•'-.'.-. :;■■■-. ■:■
