BUTTEE-BOX FACTORY BURNT.

Owing to the bursting of a lamp, the Eongotea butter-box factory was set on fire .this morning a little after 8 o'clock,and,.the.whole' building and -its contents were; destroyed. The iactory, which was situated some: distance -.out of the ■ township, was owned and-worked by Mr. Alfred Broadbelt, who will be s great loser, as. there,'was'.very : little, insurance- on" cither .the plant or the building.- AH tho butter : factories iii'tho.'neighbourhood obtained "their supplies'of boxes from, this factoryj and they .will now bo put to a. considerable'amount of inconvenience' in' obtaining boxes, as none of them held any quantity in advance. School Board of. Governors : a sub-committee was ;authorised "to expend £10.'.'in , providing material for the school gymnasium. Reference was made to' the .need- >of ■ swimming ■• baths in '■ the town; and Mr. W:.Stubbs, who has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the board caused by "the. resignation of the.Rev. I. Jolly, stated that he, understood that the council. proposed- shortly; to go- into the question of establishing public bathsi ' ! The attendance at the Campbell Street , School has. increased to such an' .'extent" of,late that .the school is now entitled to two /more teachers. The .roll "number is now 654..
