THE DAIRYING SEASON.
BIG INCREASE. The recent rains'have given the dairy farmer almost "everything he can vrish for this season. Prices are good, tho fear of drought; has been 1 removed, and the result may be judged by the fact that the export for the season, up' to and including tho' Coririthic's consignments- at tho end of last month, show ail increase in butter 18iVtong,-and ; i'n cheese of 2800 tons over the corresponding period of. last season. The totals in each case wore:—Butter;—
1909-10, 218,481cwt.j, 1908-9, ■ 181,620cwt.V Cheeselßo9-10,' 230,072 cwt.; 1908-09, 173,534c\vt. As . the cows ■ caiiio . into milk earlier than' usual this season, they will naturally .go out earlier', and the end or the season will probably .tail off quickly; t The rate of increase in the dairying industry in Auckland' province' is" reported by the '''HeraM" to. bo greater tHan.ever before..; For-" the season to date' Auckland has exported .over ■ 4000 1 tolas■ of. butter, which may be roughly.valued at anything from ".£390,000 to. £420,000., Taking the corresponding period last season, the present: season shows ah increase., of oyer 1000 tons;,. It was feared the dry period, experienced in December last-would bring the returns down-with-a run; fbnt the forage held remarkably well, and the rains of Janulny saved the situation, the dccline in tho outputs being more than normal for .the period of■ the year. At the present- time' factories are all busy, and feed is .plentiful, so that, under normal climatic' .the;' remainder of tho "season should' still' see the exports above those"'of last Reason. -' " Quite a number of "factories intend to ixintinue "operations throughout the coming winter, so that; there, should bo .'no'shortage of- butter on' tho -local maiket. :■ At present about', 650, cases of' cheese and'3so bos'es'.of, butter are,, coming' into 'tUe-Patea-Gradirig' "Worts'daily (says the Patea "Press").!.
