The Southern miners—who in the first place struck in, sympathy with the i miners—decided to leave; the eettlei ment of the strike in the hands of the 1 Amalgamated Council, That body, which I met to-day, held. a protracted, discussion.

The Council dealt with, two resolutions. The first was m,ovsd by Mr. Bunleavy ' and waa. seconded by Mr. .Waugh, the Southern miners 5 ' representatives, and was in favour, of the. Northern miners resuming work on February W,' • This waa lost by three votes' to two, both the Northern and the Western miners' representatives voting against it. The second resolution waa moved by Mr. Peters, and was seconded.'by Mr. Allison, the Northern miners' representatives. It was, to' the effect that the Northern . district' be : asked ,to vballot, "upon the acceptance of the Wages Board, or ,an open conference. simultaneously with the resumption of work, the result to be known: hot later than Saturday night next; and in the event of the Wages Board being adopted, the'resumption of work to take place in both the Northern and the. Southern districts /as soon, as possible.
