THE CHAMPIONSHIPS MEETING,
WIiIiLINGTON TO BE REPRESENTED. A well-attended meeting of tho Wellington Centre of the. New Zealand Amar tour Swimming Association was held, at the ; Y.M.C.A.. rooms last, evening, Mr. L : W. Ludwig presiding.
A letter was rend from the Thorndon Club regarding the Wellington, rqpre-. sontatiou at the championship meeting, and asking: the centre to rescind . its resolution that tho centre bo not: reprosonted. Tho club considered that, if thi& : latter course was followed, ..it would do a great deal of harm to swimming in Wellington genor'ally; Tho chairman- said thnt^it. was generally understood that tho resolution passed was only a matter of "bluit." Mr. U, S., Hill objected to the word "bluff,"-and as there had been so much correspondence in the papers about it, lip thought that, the meeting should go into committee.
Miv.Ludwig replied that Mr. Hill was responsible ior the word "bluff" used. Mr„ E. J., Fleming'.then moved; .That Reg" Healy, of the Thorndon Club, represent the Wellington Centre; 'and 1 that his expenses'bo paid.. v 'i'ho motion was seconded by Mr. B. C. i'royborg, and carried' unanimously. ■, The chairman then referred to tlie question', of, financing, the expenses of Wellington representatives to Auckland. Thei'. Gavernmeut, he . tho'igbt,granted the New. Zealand Council money for. the' encouragement 0f.., swimming generally, and, he did not think, that, the, monoy which tho .Welliugtra, Centra possessed (between ;E4O .and should he devoted solely for _■ humane work. The; humane branch might lend to the , competitive .branch, and, in that direction, ho' pro':: posed that tho centre.borrow i!2O out of tho money which they had iiv: hand, -.
