T The semi-final for the President's Fours of the Petono R.O. was rbwed last. evening, when Bonner (stroke), Inglis, Drumraond, Daly, and J. Webster; (cox.) defeated; Tremain. (stroke), Newell," M'Neil, Bland, and H. Sanders (cox.), : Both boats got a ; splendid start, and for; a while kept close together. /.Tremain's orew,' who had the inside water; had a slight lead at half way; but Bonner's .'crew , made a big effort, and, shot ahead, maintaining the lead to the winning post, which they reaohed two lengths, ahead of Tremain'e crew. The three crew's competing in the final .to-night are -as . under;—Bonner (stroke), Drummond, Daly, Inglis; White (stroke), Burridge, Gore, Staples; Drummond (stroke), Byrne, Brunette, and J. Daly.
. AMBULANCE PROPOSAL. ■ •By request -of the Mayor of" Petone (Mr. J. W: ■M'Ewan) a number of Petone residents .attended a meeting for the purpose of ; raising funds; for a muohneeded '.'ambulance.- wagon. ' All , present formed themselves into a committee, with power: to add : to their ; number. 'Mr. Evans was elected secretary, .• and the Mayor, treasurer! V-The . secretary was ini 6truotcd to write to the Gear Company, Petone Woollen -.Mills, Meat Export - Comfriendly. socioties, and .the Minister for Railways, asking'for aid. It. was decided to hold an . Ambulance Saturday on February 2G;' A; sub-committee of ladies was ; set- up to arrange '■ oortain necessary details, and the bands are to be invited to assist on the Saturday. AU the local chuTches are to be asked to' take up a -retiring collection ; for" the cause on the Sunday following,. Should morn 'funds be required it is the intention of the committee to hold a - fanes' costuihe football match, at:a. later date. A number of subscription lists, are to be distributed among, the business firms of the town. . LODGE MEETING. At the fortnifthtly meeting of the Loyal Petono Lodge (Oddfellows), held last evening, the annual report and balance-sheet wero presented. The balance-sheet showed a credit of-£IBO. for the sick and funeral fund, and .£2O for the management and medical: fund. The secretary announced that arrangements, were well in hand for the annual meeting of the Wellington district lodges, which takes place on February 21.
