IMPORTANT APPOINTMENTS. The following appointments in the Civil; Service were, announced by tlie Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) last evening:— Controller and. Auditor-General (vice Mr. J, K.- Warburton, resigned).—Colonel E. J. Collins, LS.O.,'at .present Secretary to the' Treasury. .. : . ■ Secretary to. the .Treasury (vice 'Colonel Collins).—Air. -J. W. Poynton,, Superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Department. Mr. Poynton - will oombine the duties of Secretary- to the Treasury and Superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Board, it being considered that the-two-financial Departments will work better together und«r one . control. With the appointment of Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Poynton will also take over the positions of Heceiver and PaymasterGeneral.' '

. Dr. E.H.. Makgill, Government' Bacteriologist, has been ' appointed 'District Health'. Officer at • Auckland,, vice \ Dr. Purdy, who has accepted'an appointment in Tasmania'.'
