Captaiia .Scott, who. will lead the nest British expedition to the Antarctic, pro-' poses to establish a base:'at M'Murdo Sound (in Victoria Land, the quarter from which Sir Erne-st Shackleton attacked tho South Pole) and another'in King -Edward VII Land. • He will land twenty-two men ai M'Murdo Sound, and will' then leave six in King Edward VII Land for meteorological: observations.

The expedition will , leave "New Zealand in November, and will. spend January in erecting huts, and February and March in making, provision; depots for,• 300 miles, before settling down for, the winter. The 66rioua forward movement,will follow.' Great hope is attached to the motor Bledges. ' .'•
