FRUIT AND FLOWER SHOW.
_ - AT KAEORI. The Karori and Makara Flower Show opene<l ui the Parochial Hall, Karori, yesterday. The proceeds are to be devoted to th© funds of : St. Mary's Church, Karori. The hall\ looked very well with two long tables-, across the width of the room, corercd with a profusion of cut flowers and pot plants,; and a further collection of flowers ranged around* the sides of the room. Considering the, heavy rain that had fallen lately, the -variety and condition of the flowers shown were surprisingly good. Some fine cactus dahlias i were sent in from the Bellevue Gardens, I and the local, exhibitors were represented j largely by Mr. G. H. Davies, Mr. S. | Kirkcaldie, Mr. W. Dasent, Mr. Pearce (sardener for 'Mr. J. P. Mills), and Mr. Pearn (gardener for- Hon. C. J. Johnston). 1 A very, beautiful cream hydrangea was very much smaller in flower than the ordinary hydrangea,, but the cluster itself was quite as large. This exhibit was very recently brought out from Home by Hon. C. J. Johnston. ' Some very beautiful gloxinias were, sent in for exhibition by Mrs. Lockie, from Wellington. Vegetables made a fine' class. There were cabbages of marvellous size, Frenoh • beans; (notably tho Zebra , and PioneeT kinds) grov;n by Mr. Davies, and over a foot in length, iuge marrows, enormous 'onions, very iiho potatoes, and great-heaTted lettuces. It is not every day that'one sees yellow tomatoes either—and they are supposed to be even better than the ordinary, scarlet ones. The prize-list is as follows:— .
