■'. . CASE OF J.'M. JACKSON. -. A epeoial meeting of delegates to the assoojation-was aleo :held last evening, Jlr- Hammond presiding, The business of the Jnocting was to' consider • the sus-. poneion of J. M: Jackson, of the Blenheim (Jlub, for, an alleged breach of his amateur status. A large quantity of correspondence, dealing With tho matter was read,- and showed that Jackson had' applied to the president of the Jlarlborough Association. (Mr. M'Callum) for a loan in his private capaoity as a-solicitor. The preadent, without-disenssing the nxattor with Jackson, arranged with the club to forward the loan, which \vas done, Jackson accepting it 03 having come from the president, ■ a private individual. Jackson had since found out the .true position, and had refunded, the.money. He had' understood it to ;be a private loan; from Mr. M'Callum, until he saw an-item on the club's balance-eheet.' Unfortunately, the original'letters had been destroyed. Mr. Coifey moved that the ruling ■ of the council in regard to the suspension of Jackion be conlirmed under Rule 27. Mr. Widdop seconded the motion. Mr. Chns. Hegglun, one of the crew with whom Jaqtson rowed, 'admitted that Jackson Had mado a mistake,, but he had done it quite unwittingly, 'not knowing that the club was behind the loan. A number of people were under the impres-' sion that Jackson was paid to go to Blenheim and row. This was quite wrong. All the Blenheim Club did was to get Jackson a job. Mr. Walsh; moved an amendment tnat the suspension, should be removed. He did not think that Jackson was to blame, but rather the president of the club and the officers' of the clnb. If Jackson did not know the money was coming from the club he could not have committed : a breach of the rules in accepting it. Mr. Bridson: "The question is whether the club 6hould not be disqualified aswell as the man." ,"'■■' ■ The-motion was carried, by 20 votes to Ai Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, Wanganui, Southland, Wellington and jlSfelson. voting for, and Hawko's Bay and Marlborough against. ■ '.; ■ . , In' answer to a question, the secretary stated that the council was still consii ering the position as it affected the Blen. heim Eowing Club. ■ ; .
