Zealand Athletic Union, was interviewed today :.by a Southland Times" reporter, with, reference.to ,the statementsLinade at the last'riieeting of the.League of.Wheelmen in' Christchurch with regard to. the relations at present, existing_between the league, and ' the .Athletic VLrnion. ■ Mr. Woods .stated, that, the , breach between the two:.bodies was caused-by the league drawing.up an agreement.which was-con-trary to the terms mutually agreed upon at; the: time 'the' conference' between: the two :bodies was held; ■■: When '-the, error was pointed out by the union, the league,; intentionally," ho. believed, prolonged ,the■ effecting of- , , the necessary amendments until after the Wariganui and! Southland Caledoniaa . meetings ■-. had : : been ■ held. .When.;these meetings ha'd been held it was useless to enter into, any binding agreement,, since /the. dates of the next Athletic Union conference had beenfixed for. March' 16 .and, 17,' about 'six weeks from the present, time. : The Taranaki, Peilding,";.West Coast,Cand Otago 'centres have' afreadyi signified. their, intention of supporting theproposal to. : .take ; over the government; of- oypling,': and.:thus have only 'one ; governing body for'•all cash athletics.. Mr.' 'Woods was'.'■personally strongly, in .favour of -this suggestion being .'carried into effect.' -In reference to the • advertisements :in ■ the • Wangariui papers, that : cyclists: who. .competed there would not be allowed to compete at the West'/Coast; .Mr. Woods. states. that the union;/ was '. determined to carry .out its intention that no cyclist who was a com-> potitorat Wanganui will be allowed to race; at the union championship meeting at Greymouth. This'statement, should' definitely set '■ at rest any doubt as. to the attitude the union has taken up with regard.to the:control of cycling. - ■
