The Khandallah Club has decided to withdraw its cup -team.from the interclub competitions. Tho team, has been much weakened by accident to and sickness of its members. • ~- . i'wo . handicap events, for men onlv, were played off on tho Day's Bay courts last Saturday. These ©vents were arranged by a'committee of tho Bay" week-enders,-who had-'no difficulty in setting a good number of entries. The singles event was won by ■ Crewes, a member ■ of the 7-raity Club, and "Wright, of the Murirai Club, was -runner-up. Wright -received 8 and Crewes 1!), : and tlicV final appeared to.bo an easy win for. Wright, when he caught-his opponent, in - tho thirties, but Crowes improved, and ran out a winner at-60—56.•. . Crewes v;as runner-up to Lauchlan in the secoud-grado singles at the New Year tournament, and, at; the samo meeting, Wright won tho first-grade "'iglcs by defeating lewis in the final. Tho final of the doubles event has not been played yet, but it will bo decided to-day on. tho Day's Bay courts, . when Ward and : Sheppard . (scratch) meet Wright and Jones.(lo).. The.former pair should win, their combination alone being equal to the 10 points difference in the handicaps. ■' ■■': Wellington players were very successful at .tho .recent tournaments held:in Dannevirke and ; Masterton.'.- At Dannevirke IV. 51.. B. Fisher won both the championship -. and handicap singles.' At Masterton Airs. "Holmes won tho ladies' championship singles; -and," with Miss Simpson, defeated ..Mrs. Hawkins and Miss Penny in the final of tho handicap doubles. Miss Simnson won the handicap singles. Mrs. Hawkins and Quinnell defaulted in .tho. final- of the handicap doubles. H. V'. Howe won the first giado handicaps similes. .■ V. Jackson partnered, with Gawith,, defeated C. A, and M. E. Donniston -in tho final of tho first grade men's handicap doubles, and the samo pair were runnersup to Cos and Aitken in the championship doubles. . A'noticeable feature of the recent Dannevirke tournament was the fine, performances of .the Misses Ruby, Eileen, and ..Doris Wollwbod. in coming first :in seven-events and second in .one event. Between /them they "secured ' all the' ladles ' events • excepting the handicap singles, which .was won : bv Miss Hindmarsh, -j, Miss: Doris . is- the' fourth' of these -accomplished.sisters to- come- to the front, and, by all accounts, sho'. promisesto climb to tho top of tho ladder before very long. ; . At a mwting of. the Management Committee held during the week it was decided that the senior championships, and tho-semi-fin lis' and finals of tho junior championships, should be played on tho grass courts. This decision is a yiso one, becttuse.-play oh asphalt courts offers little inducement to thoso who' are usedtn grass coiirts, and-most of the senior players .outside Wellington, get little clso but.grass court practice.' . . - : Tho annual representative'match between the ..Canterbury • and Wellingtonprovinces is. to be played, in Christchurch ji«xt. month, probably, .on Febrnarv :■&: ■The,"Wellington teami.of six men will bo ..selected from tho following -. plavere'-— - Messrs: J. C. Peacock, R, N. K.'Swanston, P.- M. B. Fisher. C. C. Cox, J. Blair, H.: W.' Brown, E. Salmond, and ".; "rouse. Owing to the losses,-, financially, on previous matches, the Manaeement. Committee has decided to risk the members of tho team to pay their own expenses .this trip. •■'■: Tho date for the match, and the question of a blie'or'two days match.will bo left to the team to decide. The - merits" of the first, six of the above-named players are too .well known to leave any doubt,as to their claims for selection ■ as a representative team.' After these, it would be"hard to pick tho best six out of a score of good reliable players. Tho ■ Selection Committee has chosen Salmond and Prouse as emergencies for.- tho team. , Both have been playing' well lately, and'-certainly deserve consideration on their present form."
