BOWLS.
THE DUNEDIN TOURNAMENT. : ; DOUBLES AND RECKS FINALS.' (By Telegraph—Proas Association.) ■ Dunedin, January 22. I The bowling tournament at • Dunedin, ■under : the auspioes of the New -Zealand Bowling Assooiation, was concluded today in fine weather. ■ In the final for,- the;'doubles,-Dr. -Allan and J. Tait '(Taieri) met J. Scott and C. J._ Payne l (Kai tuna), ■■ the former winning by 19 to 15. ■ Scott led - well for Payne, and was holding. his own against- Dr.Allan, but the Taieri , skip \ showed , a superiority ..over Payne. - There 'was a good deal of : driving in the game, which was - somewhat. of a new feature, in a tournament. Tait 7 . put in some" very effective' work -in this direction,.: but Payne's . drives: ..were . somewhat erratic, and, as a general ' rule, not productive of good results. . The Kaitiina- men had placed 'sis to "their -credit-at the fifth end, whilst : tlie Taieri players' had scored only one,-- but, 'at -the fifteenth- end,' Taieri got in.five, which /more : than equalised .matters; and: the scoring, in the next throe ends raised their score to 18. This made- Payne. eight' down. . At the twentieth end Taieri further increased their score, and..Payne added two at the final end, bringing.his score to 15. The game thus ; finished: Taieri' 19, Kaituna, 15.
.: In the. final for the rink ; championship, Wedderspoon (Boslyn) and Service (North , End,; Invercargill) continued their game, fourteen heads of • which, had . already... been ' played,- the. score being North End 13, Roslyn; 12.
