GALLOPS AGAINST THE WATCH,
AT TRENTKAM. - Track-work at Trentham was delayed an hour yesterday morning by ■ rain. There •' was a heavy shower at daybreak, which - continued till 5.30 • a.m. when : the gallops commenced. Another. heavy shower came on before 9 o'clock, but by that time most; of the work was. over. The effect of the downpour on the tracks should be - beneficial. Before breakfast the work was done, on the trial gallop and the tan, but as the former was rough and: the'tan track was slushy, trainers Prosser, Cutts, Farmer, M'Donald, Koss, and several others decided to keep: their horses in the stables .till after breakfast. In the the secretary, Mr. A.' E. Why to was' cdmmimicated with arid permission was received: to work on the outside of the course proper after breakfast.- ' All, the: trainers were very 'pleased with this/arrangement. . . All- the Cup candidates worked, excepting Sir' Antrim, Waipaku, and Equitas, who had not arrived. Eopu was the first Cup candidate to appear and did slow work' only. •' Bollin did two rounds at three-quarter-pace. Ringdove (A. Oliver) and Roosevelt (Bennett) ran a mile to-' gether -in lmin. '48sec. Roosevelt, on the outside, finished half :a" length' in front' but he had a big-pull in the weights: Chauvelin ran a' niUe 'in lmin; ;49sec. He, was assisted over the .'last-'part by : Ukraine.' ; Osiris' (L.. Morris), and: Moloch. (C. Emmerson) covered seven furlongs, finishing together: in lmin. 35sec.All,:'the' above horses workedon; the trial' gallop inside - the: rails. Husbandman .was the, first of the Cup horses to gallop after breakfast. (Buchanan), All- Red (Jenkins), and Diabolo (Hatch) -were companions in a. mile trav-. ersed in lmin. 45sec. Lady Medallist, who finished-in front gave, an impressive performance, while'AH -Red . finished satisfactorily. Downfall, Crucinella, and Muskerry'did half-pace work,-Muskerry finishing her-,task, with- a sprint.- over five Eurlongs, lmin. . Miss. Mischief, .who went amiss after winning the Summer. Cup and the Goodwood Handicap at Ellarslio, is still located'at Auckland, in charge of E. J. llae, : the daughter Of 'Treadmill not having sufficiently recovered to be shippedsouth.' An effort was.made to,secure the services of B. Dealey to ride Paisano in the Wellington Cup, out the Auckland horseman will not be able " to ride until February 1. Up till yesterday morning no jockey had been engaged for Paisano. The Auckland Metropolitan Committee held a special-meeting'last Tuesday , to consider the suspension of the jockey B. Deeley. Deeley was successful with his appeal against the sentence'imposed: upon h{m by the ; 'l'akapuna Club last December, but since then the North Shore body have reopened the "case, and imposed a twelve months' suspension.' Against this decision an appeal has been lodged on behalf of Deeley, and . the Metropolitan Committee 'decided to hear the appeal on February. .1, .
