BOWLS.

WELLINGTON CENTRE'S TOURNAMENT. ' THE SEMI-FINALS. Tho semi-final games in the Wellington Bowling Centre's rink tournament , were played at ' the Wellington Club's green last evening,''before at least a couple of hundred spectators. The play as a whole was not nearly of the standard achieved in the'games the evening before, and observing each bowler carefully there could be little doubt that a proportion of them wero stale. This unevenness in. the, play induced a considerable disparity in the scores when the games were half over, robbing them" of a good deal of interest, and in. one case tne difference was. so great that' it was decided not to play the concluding head. .

WYLIB V.PABATA;". -■ .''., The games played were'between:Parata (ToHiwi)aud Wylio (Newtown) and, Powell (NewtoviuJ'r. Eoberts (Newtown). In , tho. first-mentioned game Parata's men were not nearly the' eame quality as they were the night before,-and the luck ran away from J;nem. On the other hand Wylie's rink was' as ,-steady •as a rocky and ipiled on points with fine insistence, /until Parata ■ cried enough on the twentieth head, when the score stood: Wylie, .24; Paratai 12. : - .; : " . >- . '.:'-..'■',■■ :

The rinks were:—Newtown—Warwick, Duff, Pollock, Hendry (s.), 24. T« Hiwi-Johnson, Y. Dimock, Shallcrass,. Parata (s.), 12.. ■ -.-■ ;

..:•: V. EOBEETS.The play of Powell (Newtown) and his, rink has been one of' the'cheerful surprises of, the tournaments and everyone is pleased tb see Newtown player "arrive",as a skip to be reckoned with by the very .-best.. He. was loyally supported by his team, who-played well to the end under the guidance, .of their brainy "skip." Roberts played a fairly good game,himself, but his team did not realise the high hppes.placed in them. On. the twentieth head '.Roberts was only 11- to Powell's; 20. Oh the: last'head Roberts got in five, but: whether Powell was'exercising the.quality -of mercy.'or not can-, not be stated.. . ■' \ ■':

■The "teanii '::were:—Newtovn—Cant, Noble,'Webb, .Powell (5. , ), 20. v Newtbwn-^-Kerr, ! Ramsayi Laughton, :'Eoberts (s.), 16. . ■
