The King has been 'pleased to approve tho appomtment of the Eev. Einond Warre, D.D, C.B . M.V.O, to be Provost I of Eton, in the place of the Eev. James 1 John Hornby, D.D., C.V.O. (deceased). Dr. Wane, who is honorary chaplain to the King, and has been prebendary of Wells since 1899, has had a very distinguished scholastic careei. Born in London in 1837, he was educated at Eton and Balhol. He was Newcastle scholar at Eton m 1854, and scholar of BallioL 1855, his later distinctions' being :—First class Mob's, 1856; "first Lit-Hum., 1859 j Fellow of All Souls'. 1859; ,Hcn. Fellow of Balliol, 1896; and hon. D.C.L. Oxford, 1907. He became an assistant master at Eton in 1860, and was headmaster from 1884 to 1905, retiring in the latter year. Dr. Warre's athletic career is not without intei est. Ho rowed in tho university boat in 1857 and the two following j cars, and in 1859 was president of the OUBC In 1881 he became hon. colonel of the 2nd Bucks (Eton College) Rille Volunteers, and ho possesses the voluntcei dccoiation. , '
